PUC Streamlines Lakeshore Water Agreement

Residents of east Lakeshore wanting municipal water should have an easier time getting it from the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission.

This after officials with both municipalities created a streamlined agreement, that would see all petitions for new water lines go through the Town of Lakeshore before Chatham-Kent assesses the requests. Chatham-Kent currently services around 100 customers in Lakeshore, comprising a total of eight water lines. But this new agreement would also include any future requests from Lakeshore property owners.

"We've [determined] the process of who's going to take the petitioning, who's going to take the engineering portion of it, who's going to submit payment and how's everyone going to get paid out of it," says PUC General Manager Tim Sunderland.

Sunderland says the PUC will bill Lakeshore residents using their water, and any costs associated with setting up the new lines will be reflected on those bills.

The Chatham-Kent PUC is also extending their Mill St. water main near Tilbury, to facilitate the new agreement.
