Two Michigan Hunters Found Dead Off Seaway Island

A father and son, who had disappeared Saturday while duck hunting in Lake St. Clair, have been found dead.

The Macomb County, Michigan Sheriff's Office said in a news release, the bodies of 59-year-old Timothy Hughes and his 24-year-old son Daniel were found in water about four miles off of Seaway Island, on the Canadian side of the lake.

Seaway Island is part of a series of islands at the mouth of the St. Clair River including Walpole Island in Ontario and Harsens Island in Michigan, about 70 km south of Sarnia.

The sheriff's office also said that the pair's boat was also found in the area.

Both of Detroit's daily newspapers reported that the two men had left Jackson County, Michigan early Saturday morning on a duck hunting trip, and had left from Lake St. Clair/Metro Beach Metropark in Harrison Township.  Authorities were notified in the early morning hours of Sunday when the pair, due home Saturday afternoon, had not returned.

The Canadian Coast Guard was among the agencies participating in the search.
