Decision Day In America

Americans are heading to the voting booths to decide who will lead their nation over the next four years, as a lengthy and unorthodox U.S. presidential race finally comes to an end.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump spent the day before the election campaigning across battleground states to help sway votes in their favour.

According to the latest CNN poll of polls, Clinton has a four-point lead over Trump, 46% to 42%. However, in a campaign season that has been marred with controversy, the end result is far from predictable.

The biggest sticking point with voters for Clinton has been the alleged scandal surrounding her mishandling classified information through a private email server, while she was serving as U.S. secretary of state. The FBI has, on two separate occasions, opened an investigation into the issue, the most recent investigation being announced just 11 days before the election. Both times Clinton has been cleared of any criminal wrong doing.

Trump has made a number of controversial moves throughout his campaign, some of which included proposing a ban on all Muslims from entering the United States, refusing to release his tax returns, and calling Mexicans "rapists."  The celebrity billionaire also came under fire after a videotape was released that showed Trump making comments about sexually assaulting women. Shortly after he was also accused by 12 women of sexual assault.

Trump has also repeatedly made the unsubstantiated claim that the election is "rigged" against him. He has even gone as far to say that he may not accept the results of the election if he loses, and that he "will look at it at the time."

An ABC News/Washington Post poll also found that both Clinton and Trump are the two most unpopular presidential candidates in more than 30 years.

In most areas the polls will open between 6am and 7am, with the final polls closing around 8pm.
