A&W Expanding Into Wallaceburg

A popular burger joint has plans to open its first location in Wallaceburg by 2017.

A&W is now recruiting people interested in buying the franchise on McNaughton Ave.

National Director of Franchise Development Yanick Morin says their business model is designed to perform well in smaller communities like Wallaceburg.

"We look at the population, the traffic, the economy, the competition level," he says, "So there's a lot of aspects that come into this analysis and research."

The building will offer a drive-thru service and seats for up to 60 customers.

Potential franchisees should be prepared to invest in the ballpark of $1-million -- 35% of that in cash.

"We are looking for people that will have a passion for the brand, some background in business, also experience with leadership in the community and managing staff as well," says Morin, adding the new location will staff between 20 and 30 full-time and part-time employees.

"There's a lot to do before we can open this restaurant," Morin says. "We have a training program, which is six weeks, and then we'll need to recruit the staff and then, of course, build a restaurant."
