Teen Assaults Police Officer During Arrest

A 16-year-old girl is facing charges after police allege she assaulted an officer and damaged a cell door.

Officers say the teen was arrested Tuesday afternoon while police were responding to a family dispute in Chatham.

According to police, when she was asked to leave the residence, she allegedly became belligerent and started insulting the officers with words and gestures.

She was ordered to stop, but she allegedly didn't listen, so the officers at the scene took her into custody for breaching the peace.

While she was being arrested, police allege the teen kicked one of the officers in the leg. She's also accused of damaging a cell door at police headquarters.

The 16-year-old girl is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
