Tentative Deal Reached At Blenheim Plant

A strike has been averted at Woodbridge Foam in Blenheim.

Negotiatiors from Unifor and the company were able to reach another tentative contract before the strike deadline Wednesday night.

Plant Chairperson Brian Wright says he's confident this contract will pass the vote after the first deal was shot down by 64% of the members.

"What we have reached is far better than the proposal we brought last Sunday," says Wright. "I'm quite sure that everyone, when they see what's in it, will be in favour of it."

Wright can't get into the details of the contract, but says the negotiations wrapped up earlier this week.

"We went through some highs and lows -- and some good times and bad times through it," says Wright. "At the end of the day, we reached a new agreement that everybody is happy with and we're going to move forward."

Nearly 240 workers are set to vote on the tentative agreement at 10am Sunday at the Kent-Belgian-Dutch-Canadian Club in Chatham.
