Fina Swimming Competitions Underway

The FINA World Swimming Championships is underway, with heats taking place Tuesday morning and semi-final and finals swims in the evening.

Local swimmer and Olympic bronze medalist Kylie Masse says she's treating this competition just like any other.

"In swimming we're always moving forward so just trying to keep improving on my own time and places and rankings. So just keep getting back into the pool and work on those things that I can improve on," says Masse.

Masse's coach Linda Kiefer says the focus of the training changes when competing on a short course like the 25M.

Starts and turns are very important and we just did a lot of underwater work, a lot of turn work, push off the walls, body position underwater. So it's turns, turns, turns," says Kiefer.

Masse says she has heard nothing but positive feedback from swimmers around the world as they explore the competition venue.

"I don't think a lot of athletes have the opportunity to compete in their home country let alone their home town so I'm really excited to be able to that and I'm really looking forward to the crowd and the atmosphere here," says Masse.

The competition continue all week until December 11. Over the week 933 athletes from 164 countries will compete for 46 gold medals.
