Teen Charged After Car Hits House

Sarnia police have charged a 16-year-old male in connection with a crash that severely damaged a Modeland Rd. home.

Police were notified around 2:30am on Monday, that the teen had allegedly taken his parents vehicle for a joy ride. An officer tried to stop the racing vehicle, but ended the pursuit for public safety reasons and slippery road conditions.

Shortly after, the 2016 Dodge Challenger crashed through the front brick wall of a home, through the living room and out the back onto the patio.

Constable John Sottosanti says the teen driver attended police headquarters Wednesday morning and was arrested and charged.

"He's charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight while pursued by a peace officer," says Sottosanti.

The young offender was released to his parents on a promise to appear and has a court date in January 2017.

He was not seriously injured in the crash and luckily no one was in the home at the time.
