Icy Roads Causing Collisions in Tilbury

With snow, then freezing drizzle moving through the area Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police reports multiple issues on area roadways.

Ontario Provincial Police received numerous calls Saturday concerning vehicles involved in spinouts and a few vehicles ending up in ditches, particularly along Hwy 401 in the Tilbury area.

Shortly after 5pm, OPP reported the eastbound lanes of the 401 blocked before Comber Sideroad.  The eastbound lanes were closed for over two hours.

Just before 5:30pm, the westbound lanes were reported blocked after County Road 42 due to another collision.  That incident was cleared about an hour later.

The OPP is urging people who must travel in these conditions to allow extra time to get to their destination, allow plenty of extra space between themselves and the vehicle in front, and reducing speed.
