Masked Men Arrested After Break-In

Five people from Windsor have been arrested after disguised robbers broke into a Chatham apartment building.

Chatham-Kent police say four disguised men forced their way through the screen door of a Merritt Ave. apartment unit around 2am Monday. Police say the men were carrying a firearm.

Officers say the residents of the unit were home at the time, and while there was minor damage to the screen door, no one was injured. They say the men fled as the residents called 911. Police learned that during the break-in, a fifth man was waiting in a vehicle outside, adding they don't believe this was a random act of violence.

Police say officers later arrested five suspects in a Chatham parking lot in connection with the break-in. While searching the suspects, officers allegedly discovered balaclavas and a black airsoft hand gun inside the vehicle.

Now, two 18-year-old men and two 19-year-old men, all from Windsor, have all been charged with robbery and firearm-related offences. Police add a 16-year-old youth was also arrested and charged.

They're being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
