Snowbank Stops Suspected Impaired Driver

A Thamesville man has been charged after police say he pulled a u-turn to allegedly avoid a R.I.D.E. program.

Lambton OPP say the R.I.D.E. program was set up at Lambton Line and Florence Rd. in Dawn-Euphemia at around 8:30pm Monday, when officers saw a vehicle turn around before it reached them.

While police were following the vehicle, officers saw it pull into a private driveway before it got stuck in some snow on the front lawn of the residence. When police finally reached the vehicle, they allege that the man was trying to slide into the front passenger seat.

Police say the driver was taken to the OPP's detachment in Petrolia where his breath samples resulted in a "warn" reading.

A 29-year-old Thamesville man is now charged with careless driving.
