The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) is getting ready to show appreciation for local residents, as well as spread the word on natural restoration projects.
The LTVCA is hosting Stewardship Night at the Country View Golf Course in Dover at the end of the month.
Environmental Project Coordinator Greg Van Every says the event serves for a couple of purposes.
"We wanted to get [local stewards] out, not only to appreciate them but to have them in a forum -- or a more relaxed setting to answer questions from anyone else in the community who would want to do a natural restoration project with us," says Van Every.
He adds getting locals to plant, even just one tree this springs would benefit the soil, air quality, and overall landscape.
"There are minimum size projects that allow you to qualify for incentives but trees average around a dollar a piece, so it's not too expensive to buy a few trees and put them in around your home," says Van Every.
He adds the more popular trees sold are native to the area.
"A lot of people like to put in Windbreaks and that's usually a conifer situation," he says. "A lot of people also prefer the Carolinian deciduous species as well -- they're all important to the area."
The event will also feature guest speaker Mathis Natvik who worked to secure Clear Creek Forest in the eastern part of Chatham-Kent.
Stewardship Night will be held on February 28, from 7pm-10pm.
