Slow Ice Fishing Season Across Region

Many anglers are staying off Lake St. Clair this ice fishing season because of the lack of thick ice.

Daniel Charron of Al's Bait and Tackle in Tecumseh tells BlackburnNews.com that it has been one of the slowest ice fishing seasons he's ever seen.

Charron says fishing this winter is mainly done from the shore, adding "it's been pretty shaky, but the guys are still fishing where the ice is broken up and they're getting a lot of fish."

Charron warns against people going on the ice unless "they really know it's safe."

He says the slow ice fishing season really hits the bottom line, but still hopes to be busy during the Family Day long weekend.

"If the sun is out and it's not raining and the wind is not blowing, they'll able to get a lot of fish," says Charron.

Anyone in Ontario can fish licence-free from Saturday, February 18 through Monday, February 20.
