Early Morning Argument Turns Violent

A 40-year-old Chatham man is facing some serious charges after allegedly assaulting his wife and threatening her with a weapon.

Police say the incident started at around 5:30am Thursday when the man woke his wife up because he was yelling.

Officers say the pair got into an argument, at which point the man allegedly assaulted his wife. While she was on the floor, he allegedly put a piece of undisclosed material in her mouth, and stopped her from taking it out.

Once she was able to get away, the man stood by the front door and allegedly prevented her from getting out.

Police were eventually called in and took the man into custody. While officers were investigating, they also learned that the man had allegedly assaulted the woman in the past and had also threatened her with a weapon.

The 40-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, pointing firearm and uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
