Local law enforcement officials are well aware of the celebratory rituals associated with St. Patrick's Day -- and they'll be on the lookout for anyone driving under the influence.
Jay Denorer, community safety officer with the Chatham-Kent OPP, says they'll be out patrolling, stopping vehicles as part of their RIDE program and distracted driving campaign.
"With St. Patrick's Day being typically a day where there's an increase in alcohol consumption our members will be out on the highways, looking for impaired drivers," says Denorer.
Although more people may be out drinking, Denorer says they don't usually see an increase in the amount of drunk drivers.
"I think the message is starting to get out that the police will be out on certain days," he says. "So a lot of the members of the public will actually find alternative rides home."
