Chatham-Kent Cyclones Vs. Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Pewee '05 team is getting ready to square off against the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs in the championship games this weekend.

The Cyclones are entering their third game of an eight-point series Saturday afternoon.

Head coach D.J. Degelas says the AAA hockey team is practicing a couple times a week and studying game footage to prepare for the finals.

"I think we match up pretty good against them," says Degelas. "We're both high-scoring teams."

Before heading into game one against the Chiefs, the Cyclones celebrated a 3-0 sweep against the Kitchener Jr Rangers. On March 11, the winning streak came to an end when the Cyclones lost to the Chiefs 3-5. The next day on March 12, they finished with a tie game 4-4.

It's still early on in the finals so it's anyone's game but Degelas says he's proud of his team for the work they've put forward this season.

"I'm very proud of all the kids, they've all stepped up their game," he says. "They've all been leaders in the playoffs."

The Cyclones and Chiefs meet in Komoka, Saturday at 12:15pm, and on Sunday they'll play at 5pm at the Blenheim Arena.
