Leamington Man Charged For Allegedly Smuggling Cocaine

A 42-year-old Leamington man is among a dozen people facing charges for allegedly smuggling cocaine across the border.

The RCMP says officers executed a total of 14 search warrants in Toronto, Leamington and the Kitchener-Waterloo area. As a result, more than 38 kg of cocaine was seized.

Police those accused, allegedly helped arrange the transport of the drug through the U.S. and across the border into Canada, by hiding it inside legitimate cargo.

A total of 11 men and one woman from southern Ontario have all been charged with various offences including importing a controlled substance into Canada and conspiring to import a controlled substance.

The investigation investigation into the drug smuggling first began in the spring of 2016, and is ongoing. Police say more charges are expected.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
