Fundraising Efforts Underway

The Mary Webb Centre in Highgate isn't wasting any time.

They've launched a GoFundMe account to fundraise $62,500. That's the amount needed to match a one-time grant from the municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Vice Chair Sandra Kearney says first thing the money will go towards is new doors and windows.

"The windows were specially made because the Mary Webb Centre is a heritage building," says Kearney. "In order to maintain the heritage look the windows had to be made specially for that."

Kearney says they started strong, but they're hoping for more support.

"Well the GoFundMe page hasn't raised as much money as I'd like to see come pouring in by any means. I was hoping that everyone could contribute any amount, any amount at all."

They are also working on an addition that includes a ramp and accessible washrooms.

They have a number of other fundraisers planned, including a studio tour, a book sale, a fashion show, and a benefit concert.
