'Pit Bull' Lakovic Loses Battle With Cancer

Former Chatham Wheels fan favourite Sasha "Pit Bull" Lakovic has died according to multiple reports.

The 45-year-old father of four was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer last year. He died Tuesday in West Kelowna, British Columbia.

Lakovic was perhaps best-known for his role as an enforcer, playing several games in the NHL for the Calgary Flames and the New Jersey Devils in the 1990s.

Lakovic also played 41 games for the Chatham Wheels from 1992-1994 in the now-defunct Colonial Hockey League.

During that time, he racked up 296 PIMs along with 30 points.

Lakovic also spent some time on the silver screen, playing Boris Mikhailov in the movie Miracle based on the Miracle on Ice.
