Rainfall Warning In Effect

Things are about to get very wet in southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the entire region, including London-Middlesex, Elgin County, Oxford County, Chatham-Kent, Windsor, and Essex County. Forecasters say rain will start falling on Thursday and last until Saturday. By the time it is finished, some areas could see up to 70mm of rain. Lingering showers are possible on Saturday.

With the recent rain that has fallen, the ground in the region is already saturated and, according to a statement from Environment Canada, has "little ability to absorb further rainfall." That is causing concern that flooding is a real possibility.

Conservation authorities across the region have already advised people to stay away from the banks of waterways. Water levels continue to rise and the water in rivers and streams is cold and fast moving.
