John N. Given PS Merger Likely Delayed

The fate of John N. Given Public School in Chatham will be decided Tuesday night.

The plan is to merge the elementary school with nearby Tecumseh Public School and move its Grade 7 and 8 French Immersion Program to McNaughton Ave. Public School.

If the plan is approved by trustees, the french program will be at McNaughton in September while the rest of the John N. Given students will be at Tecumseh in September of 2018.

A report going to the Lambton Kent District School Board states the one year delay will allow construction to finish at Tecumseh and allow more discussion about relocating or upgrading crosswalks on McNaughton Ave.

John N. Given is at half capacity and the report indicates consolidation will better use space and money.
