Blenheim Couple Accused Of Bilking Bank

A man and a woman from Blenheim are in trouble with the law after allegedly cheating a bank out of a large sum of money -- and lying to police about it.

Police say the woman told officers in March that someone had stolen her bank deposit book, her bank card, and some cheques and used them to take some money out of her account.

According to investigators, that story was made up.

Officers say what actually happened, was that a man -- who was in a common-law relationship with the woman -- disguised himself and used the bank card that was reportedly stolen to make several withdrawals at various locations with the woman's help.

A 33-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man are now both facing 11 counts of fraud. They're also charged with wearing a disguise while committing an offence and uttering forged documents.
