The OPP is cracking down on speeders and aggressive drivers this long holiday weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police say speeding drivers is the number one cause in road fatalities so far this year.
The death toll due to speeding on OPP patrolled roads is 76% higher than this time last year.
West Region Sergeant Dave Rektor says speeding is an unnecessary risk much like impaired driving and officers will be targeting those drivers who threaten the safety of others on the road.
"The R.I.D.E initiative is a year long initiative , but especially on long weekends we do pay special attention to those that want to drive impaired either by drugs or alcohol, so we will have R.I.D.E programs in place to address that too," says Rektor.
Boaters can also expect to see an increase police presence on area waterways this long weekend. The OPP marine unit will be ensuring boaters are in compliance with vessel regulations.
