Chatham Fireworks Committee Close To Setting New Date

Chatham residents should know by the end of this week when the fireworks show that was supposed to take place on the Canada Day weekend will be going ahead.

Fireworks committee secretary Heather Clifford says there are still a few more decisions that need to be made before a date can be released.

"We've made a lot of progress over the last two days. We've contacted K &H, the fireworks company, as well as GreenField Global," says Clifford. "We have an idea of when they'll be rescheduled, but until we get this last piece of the puzzle confirmed, we won't be able to say the day."

Clifford says ideally the fireworks will be held on the next holiday weekend -- if the municipality approves the permit.

The fireworks were originally planned for the Canada Day long weekend in Chatham, but they were cancelled last minute due to safety concerns over the wet ground caused by rainy weather.
