Municipality Catches Error With Tax Notices

Property owners in Chatham-Kent may have gotten a bit of a scare when looking at their tax payment notices for this month.

A media release issued Friday morning states that some property owners received two pre-authorized payment notices with differing amounts.

"Approximately 9,000 property owners who pay their taxes monthly through pre-authorized payments received July notices that didn’t include updated 2017 figures," the municipality says in the release. "When the error was discovered [and] revised, notices which listed the correct amounts were mailed to taxpayers."

The corrected notices include the 1.96% tax increase, which was approved by council.

Municipal staff are looking into the tax notice error.
