Windsor-Essex's record-breaking swimmer comes up short in Hungary.
LaSalle native Kylie Masse, who already made a splash at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Budapest with a gold and bronze medal to her credit, failed to medal Saturday in the 200m women's backstroke event.
Masse finished fifth in the final event with a time of 2:07.04, .56 of a second out of a medal and 1.36 of a second out of the lead. Teammate Hilary Caldwell finished sixth in the contest, just .11 of a second behind Masse.
Australia's Emily Seebohm collected the gold in the event, followed by silver-medal winner Katinka Hosszu and American Kathleen Baker taking the bronze.
Masse won a gold medal and a world record earlier in the week in the women's 100m backstroke, and won a team bronze in the 4X100m mixed medley.
The championships conclude on Sunday.
