WestJet is speaking out over reports that personal information for some of its customers may have been compromised.
The Canadian airliner acknowledged Friday that the personal information of some of its WestJet Rewards members may have been disclosed by an unauthorized third party. The airline does not mention the third party responsible.
WestJet says none of the information disclosed included personal credit card or banking information.
The RCMP cybercrime unit and the Calgary Police Service are working with WestJet in the investigation and the airline has taken steps to secure any systems that may have been compromised.
"The privacy and protection of our guests' information is a matter we take very seriously and we have worked swiftly and aggressively to resolve this incident," says WestJet vice-president Craig Maccubbin in a statement. "WestJet is in the process of contacting affected guests and we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause."
WestJet encourages all of its Rewards customers to update their passwords regularly.
