WWF Says There's Another Contaminated Water Well In CK

Activist group Water Wells First is reporting a second contaminated water well has been found in North Kent.

Paul and Jessica Brooks of Brook Line, say loose sediment containing heavy metals caused by nearby wind tower pile driving has plugged their pump.

Jessica says the family of five has no water for drinking or showering or flushing the toilet.

"We have some jugs of water for brushing teeth and drinking but my husband found out when he tried to shower after work yesterday. So, he hasn't had a shower. I have kids coming back from doing corn today that aren't going to be able to shower," says Jessica.

The Brooks say the problem started on Friday after pile driving started on Thursday at the tower site about 1 km away.

Jessica says the Ministry of Environment came on Tuesday to take samples but she's skeptical about how they were collected.

Water Wells First was out in full support of the Brooks family Wednesday morning and is calling the ministry to do a survey of all the water wells in the area to see the extent of the damage caused by pile driving.

Jessica says the family has done regular water testing since February and results have always come back clear up until now.

"We have a beautiful well. There's some sodium in the water, which everybody in Chatham-Kent has and it's a little hard, which is normal for groundwater. Otherwise, it's a perfect well," she says.

Jessica says daily life has just become more difficult because of the problem.

"Drinking water is the least of our concerns really. I have three teenagers and anybody who has teenagers knows you have dishes and laundry everyday. So, we can't run our appliances and we can't flush out toilet," says Jessica.
