BBQ To Celebrate Navistar Pension Payout

There is finally some closure for former Navistar workers in Chatham.

Unifor is hosting a family barbeque at its Local 127 Hall on Merrit Ave. in Chatham Saturday to celebrate the end to an almost decade-long labour dispute.

Unifor National President Jerry Dias will also be there to talk about the "vital role played by labour in achieving justice for working people... and the victory at Navistar."

In February, an arbitrator ruled in favour of the union, to award all entitled workers their outstanding payments under the Employment Standards Act.

That ruling meant 598 members were found to be entitled to severance pay.

Saturday's barbecue runs from 1pm to 4pm at 280 Merritt Ave. in Chatham.
