Careless Driving Charge After Hwy. 40 Crash

Chatham-Kent OPP say a 58-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with careless driving in connection with a crash that temporarily shut down a section of Hwy. 40 Tuesday morning.

Police say the man was driving a vehicle that rear-ended another vehicle that had stopped in a line of cars on Hwy. 40 near Border Rd. at around 9am Tuesday.

That crash pushed the vehicle in front of the accused into a third vehicle.

Police say all three of the vehicles that were involved sustained "moderate" damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Officers say one of the drivers was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash and the clean-up that followed prompted police to shut down Hwy. 40 for about an hour between 10am and 11am Tuesday. It has since fully reopened to traffic.
