Layoffs Now Unlikely At CKHA

Several staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance have taken early retirement as the hospital continues to trim its staff.

CEO Lori Marshall says 28 staff have either taken buy out packages, left the organization voluntarily or have switched from full time to part time.

CKHA hopes that all the 41 layoffs announced in June will be done through attrition.

There are 13 positions left to deal with.

Marshall says the hospital is still properly staffed and there's been no overcrowding as it gets ready for the upcoming flu season.

Meantime, the CKHA finished the fiscal year with another balanced budget.

It's the second year in a row for that accomplishment after several years of being in a deficit.
