SIU Identifies Woman Who Died After Interaction With Windsor Police

The Special Investigations Unit is now identifying the woman who died weeks after an interaction with Windsor police.

Marissa Ellis, 26, of Chatham died on September 19. She was initially arrested by Windsor police in front of the Windsor Public Library on Ouellette Ave. on September 4.

According to a release by the SIU, she was acting erratic so an ambulance was called for and she was taken to hospital. She was released the following day but re-admitted on September 10.

She was taken off life-support on September 19, 2017. No other details about the circumstances of the case have been released at this time.

SIU investigators say they believe that several people may have witnessed the arrest, given the time of day and the number of people in the area. They are urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
