If you bought some chicken breast strips recently, you'll want to check the box closely.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says Maple Leaf Foods is recalling Maple Leaf brand Chicken Breast Strips because they may cause people to get sick from Staphylococcus bacteria.
The affected products were sold in 840g packages across Canada and have a best before date of September 29, 2018.
The CFIA says there have been illnesses reported in association with this recall and they are urging anyone who thinks they may have gotten sick after eating some of these products to contact their doctor as soon as possible.
If you have a box of the affected chicken strips in your home, you should throw it out or return it to the store where you bought it.
The CFIA is warning the public that "food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell spoiled" adding "the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures."
Some of the symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and fever. However, in severe cases, people who have become infected have reported headaches, muscle cramping, and changes in blood pressure.
