Traffic Stop Leads To Gun And Drug Seizure

A 24-year-old London man is facing several charges after his lead-footed driving led to police seizing a gun and over $100,000 worth illegal drugs.

Chatham-Kent OPP say a vehicle going westbound on Hwy. 401 near Scane Rd. was stopped for speeding on Wednesday. Police searched the vehicle and found $100,000 worth of suspected cocaine, $12,000 worth of marijuana, counterfeit money, a handgun, and ammunition.

The suspect is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I sbstance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possessing counterfeit money
  • Racing a motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle with no permit
  • Failing to surrender insurance card
  • Possessing more than one licence
Police say the man is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
