Chatham-Kent police officers took turns standing vigil in front of the Chatham Cenotaph on Friday in honour of Remembrance Day.
Officers participated in a 150-hour vigil called "CK Keeping 150," which is hosted by Christ Church in Chatham. The vigil calls upon the community to stand or sit on guard at the Chatham Cenotaph until Remembrance Day at noon.
Constable Destiny Pailey says she volunteered at the vigil to recognize how far Canada has come.
"I think it's very important for all of us to come together and remember where we've come from and recognize now where we are," says Pailey.
Pailey says the community was so supportive of the volunteers.
"There's been offers of tea and coffee, warm drinks, and snacks. It really is a truly amazing experience... the amount of people that have driven by and recognized the people standing out here at all hours of the day and night," she says.
She says she has a veteran in her own family.
"A great grandmother of mine, on my mother's side, she was a sergeant in the war. She's still alive today and I think it's very important that we continue to recognize this for years to come -- their participation and how Canada is today," says Pailey.
