Dresden Casino Workers Ratify New Contract

Employees at the Dresden Casino have accepted a new contract with Gateway Casinos & Entertainment.

Unionized workers, represented by Unifor Local 444, ratified the new deal on Monday. The workers, which include slot attendants, slot technicians, dealers, servers and housekeeping staff, voted 94.4% in favour of the three-year deal.

"Unifor achieved most of our key goals in this negotiation and that's reflected in the overwhelming vote of support for the contracts," says James Stewart, president of Unifor Local 444, in a press release. "As the largest union in the gaming sector, we will continue to fight to maintain good paying jobs in this highly profitable sector."

The deal secures wage increases, pension improvements, and zone language covering job security in the event of relocation.

Unifor Local 444 represents around 250 members in two bargaining units.
