OPP Find Illegal Smokes During Traffic Stop

A Windsor man faces charges including having unmarked cigarettes after a traffic stop on Hwy. 401.

Ontario Provincial Police in Chatham-Kent pulled over a vehicle near Kenesserie Rd. around 4pm last Friday and found several cartons of illicit smokes inside.

The 56-year-old is also charged with driving while under suspension and driving without a valid permit under the Highway Traffic Act.

A new study commissioned by the Ontario Convenience Stores Association suggests illegal cigarette use is increasing in southwestern Ontario. It says 33.9% of cigarettes in the region are unmarked, compared to 26% last year.
