Man Charged After Chatham Woman Escapes Assault

Chatham-Kent police say a man is charged after a woman was assaulted.

Investigators say the man and his common-law girlfriend started arguing in their Chatham home on Monday afternoon around 1pm and the argument escalated.  They say the man allegedly assaulted the woman and prevented her from leaving the house.  She eventually fled to a neighbour’s house and was taken to the hospital with bruising to various parts of her body when police arrived.

The 39-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, forcible confinement, and sexual assault.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
