Extremely Cold Temperatures Hit Region

Environment Canada has ended the extreme cold warning for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

According to the weather agency, an arctic mass continues to bring cold temperatures and brisk winds to Southwestern Ontario.

Windchill values are expected to reach the -25c to -30c range Saturday evening and overnight. After Sunday morning temperatures are expected to warm up.

The agency recommends that residents cover up to avoid frostbite, which can develop within minutes on exposed skin. Residents should also check on older family, friends, and neighbours. Pets should also be kept indoors.

It is also a good idea to pack emergency supplies in your vehicle, such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill pose health risks, such as frost bite and hypothermia.

This warning will be updated as necessary.
