CK Police Officer Cleared By SIU

A Chatham-Kent police officer will not be charged for punching a man in Wallaceburg during an arrest for trespassing.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges after the officer punched the 39-year-old man twice in the face on December 12, 2016. The investigation revealed the suspect tried to grab the officer's Taser during the arrest.

The SIU alleges that the man attempted to steal approximately $1,400 in merchandise from the Walmart in Wallaceburg and was later found in the backyard of a home.

The suspect suffered a fractured orbital bone and was arrested for trespassing, assault and resisting arrest.
