Officer Jumps To Save Woman

A 67-year-old woman is okay, thanks to the efforts of a local police officer.

Chatham-Kent police say a vehicle lost control on Prince Albert Rd. just north of Union Line on Tuesday around 4:30pm.

The vehicle ended up going into a water-filled ditch and the woman was trapped inside. The first officer on scene, Constable Scott Renders, saw the vehicle fill up with water and jumped into the ditch without hesitation.

Renders smashed a window to get the driver to safety. The 67-year-old woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The officer was not injured.

Police are currently investigating the crash.
