Windy Conditions May Cause Flooding

The local conservation authority says high winds over the weekend may cause flooding in some areas of Chatham-Kent.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook statement due to wind speeds that could reach 55 km/hr with gusts of up to 75 km/hr on Saturday afternoon.  The southerly wins will be pushing waves onshore along most of the Lake Erie shoreline.

The conservation authority adds that flooding occurred along Erie Shore Dr. last year when the area experienced strong winds above 35 km/hr from a southerly direction.

Residents in vulnerable areas along the Lake Erie shoreline should keep an eye on local conditions.

All area residents should also use caution near the shoreline as conditions are expected to be dangerous.
