Emergency Alert Test To Take Place Monday

There's no need to be concerned if your radio, TV, or mobile device sounds an alert Monday afternoon.

It will be Ontario's turn to conduct a test of Canada's new public emergency alert system.

The Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services says the test will take place in Ontario at 1:55pm Eastern time.

The test will come through compatible mobile devices and tablets, as well as through television and radio.

The national alert system, known as Alert Ready, went online April 6. It is set up with federal, provincial and municipal emergency management groups, as well as local and regional police and fire services.

It is capable of providing alerts on weather emergencies courtesy of Environment Canada and The Weather Network, along with other types of emergencies.

The Alert Ready website has complete information and frequently-asked questions about the system and the kinds of alerts processed.
