Human Trafficking Charges Laid In Windsor

Two people from the Toronto area have been charged with human trafficking by Windsor police.

Officers found a woman in her 20s in distress at a downtown Windsor hotel on May 9.

She was treated for some non-life threatening injuries in hospital.

The victim says she met an adult male outside of Windsor in the summer of 2017 and they began dating. She says the suspect began controlling the relationship, seizing her identification and forcing her into prostitution.

The victim says she was assaulted, sexually assaulted, and threatened with a firearm.

Police say she was in Windsor with a 24-year-old female to work as escorts with the 27-year-old male suspect controlling the money.

They say the victim made efforts to leave but was assaulted and robbed by her companions.

The suspects were arrested in Chatham-Kent without incident.
