Dresden Raceway Ready For New Season

Live Harness Horse Racing returns to Dresden Raceway on Sunday, May 27.

Some concerns have been raised about safety at the track following a shooting in one of the barns earlier this month.

But Track Announcer Gary Patterson says there is nothing for the public to worry about.

"The shooting was an isolated incident out at Dresden Raceway," says Patterson. "Chatham-Kent police have said don't worry about anything, the public is not in danger, everybody is safe. So they said it's an isolated incident and not to worry about it."

But the shooting isn't the only threat facing the track. The slots are also moving.

"We were there 140 years before we had any slots in Dresden, and we're going to be there 140 years after the slots are gone," says Patterson. "It's horse harness racing fans, horse enthusiasts will be at the track, and that's what supports Dresden Raceway, and always has."

Patterson says they have a great opening weekend planned.

"Lots of giveaway, great prizes, and as usual, every day at Dresden Raceway is a lot of fun," says Patterson. "Exciting harness racing action, giveaways, so much fun, and the excitement is just ready for the horse racing."

Racing gets underway at 1:30pm. Dresden Raceway is hosting 11 race dates in 2018.
