Maroons Sign Zekelman, Release Pre-Season Schedule

The Chatham Maroons have signed another young forward as they continue to fill out their roster ahead of the 2018-2019 season.

The team has committed to defenseman Jack Zekelman, a 16-year-old Sudbury Wolves (OHL) draft pick.

Zekelman was selected in the third round, 41st overall in the U18 OHL Priority Selection after spending the last season as an assistant captain with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires Midget AAA team.

He scored 2 goals and added 18 assists in 30 games with the team. He also played two games for the Chatham Maroons last season as an affiliate player.

"Jack is someone we targeted right away as his poise and patience with the puck in high-pressure situations to make the first pass is impressive," says Maroons Head Coach Kyle Makaric. "Jack has the ability to defend well and jump into the play offensively which will be a huge addition to the Maroons Organization."

The Maroons have also announced the dates and locations for their pre-season games.

The team will open things up with a road game against Sarnia at 7pm at Progressive Auto Sales Arena on August 23 and close out the pre-season with a home game against the Legionnaires on September 4.
