Woman Charged In Wallaceburg Building Fire

The person accused of setting a building on fire in Wallaceburg has been arrested and charged.

It was around 1am on March 7 when emergency crews were called to a fire on Reaume Ave.

Officers were able to identify a suspect with assistance from the Centre of Forensic Sciences and Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office. Police have not released her name, but said she was arrested and charged Friday morning.

Police also allege the woman stole a truck that belonged to a concerned citizen who stopped to help with the situation. Police said they quickly recovered the abandoned truck at a nearby business and no one was injured in the fire.

Police said the 35-year-old woman has been charged with arson-related offences, theft of motor a vehicle, and three counts of failing to comply.

Officers said she will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
