Fifth St. Bridge Now Open

After almost a year of construction, Chatham's Fifth St. bridge is now open to traffic.

The bridge over the Thames River reopened on Friday at 6pm, with one lane open to traffic in each direction.  There is also pedestrian access on both sides of the bridge.

The municipality says there will be barriers and construction fencing along the west side of the bridge due to ongoing utility work until sometime in the fall.

The bridge was first closed back on July 4, 2017, with a completion date of December 22, 2017. However, “due to unforeseen construction delays," the project was extended by six months until June 2018.
