Drivers Caught Ignoring Barricades

Chatham-Kent police are reminding residents that driving through or around barricades could result in charges.

A two-vehicle crash closed the area around Ridge Line and Harwich Rd. Wednesday morning. Police say both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During the police investigation, barricades were placed across the road for safety purposes.

"Driving around [the barricades], not only jeopardizes the safety of our officers but potentially could contaminate the scene," Chatham-Kent police say in a media release.

Officers say tickets were issued Wednesday when drivers ignored the barricades. The drivers who did so were charged with driving on a closed highway, which is a $110 fine and three demerit points.
