Tickets and warnings handed out at RIDE checks
A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere spot check on Lacroix Street in Chatham stopped 67 vehicles. One ticket was issued and three warnings were handed out for Highway Traffic infractions.
A RIDE check on Talbot Road in Wheatley stopped 30 vehicles and two warnings were handed out for infractions.

Two passengers injured in motor vehicle collision
One man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm. Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Kent Bridge Road. The driver of a southbound vehicle was arrested and brought to police headquarters for breath tests under suspicion of impairment. The 57-year-old from St. Catherines has been charged after two passengers involved were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Back to school reminders
As the first day of school approaches, Chatham-Kent Police Services are reminding motorists of the rules surrounding speed limits in school zones and traffic rules around school buses.
In cities, towns and villages, the maximum speed limit is 50 km/hr. Drivers are reminded to be aware of the increased pedestrian traffic in school zones.
For school buses, when driving on a road with no median, drivers travelling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing. When approaching a bus from the front, stop at a safe distance to let children get on or off the bus and cross the road. Drivers can not move forward until the red lights have stopped flashing or the bus begins to move.
When driving on a road WITH a median, traffic coming from the opposite direction is not required to stop.
Drivers can be charged if they pass a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing. For the first offence, drivers can be fined $400 to $2,000 and lose six demerit points. Subsequent offences result in fines of $1,000 to $4,000, six demerit points and possible jail time (up to six months).
Vehicle owners can be charged if their vehicle illegally passes a stopped school bus, even if they weren't driving.
